Obituary for Marlin "Marty" Elwood Martin

Marlin "Marty" Elwood Martin, age 80, of Cookeville, Tennessee passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, Tennessee.

Marty was born in Mechanicsburg, PA on Monday, July 20, 1936 to the late Carrie Romaine (McNair) Mallonee and the late Bruce Martin.

Marty started working in retail as a teenager for Sears, Roebuck & Co., in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and was eventually promoted to a division manager in Toledo, Ohio. Shortly after transferring with Sears to Twin Falls, Idaho, he left retail to begin dairy farming, operating dairy farms in Jerome and Wendell, Idaho. After briefly returning to retail with Montgomery Ward in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, he made his last career move, becoming a long-haul, over-the-road truck driver with North American Van Lines. Marty spent the rest of his career driving millions of miles across the country, mostly as an owner-operator with North American and often with his wife Marie, but also with other various trucking companies until his retirement.

Marty is surived by:

Wife: Marie Martin of Cookeville, Tennessee

2 Sons: Marlin Leroy Martin and his wife Kim of Great Falls, Montana
Joseph Leslie Martin and his wife Judy of Jefferson City, Missouri

3 Daughters: Melinda and Floyd Simpson of Baxter, Tennessee
Julia Wheeler of Walland, Tennessee
Angie and Steve Vick of Cookeville, Tennessee

13 Grandchildren

15 Great Grandchildren

In addition to his parents, Marty was preceded in death by a Daughter Rhonda Martin, a Brother Albert Martin, and by a Great Grandchild.

Marty chose cremation and the family followed his wishes and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
